Equality at Loatlands
Everyone at Loatlands Primary School has an equal right to develop and achieve their potential regardless of race, gender, disability, sexual orientation and religion. Equality of opportunity underpins the school curriculum and the work of the school. The children, staff and governors at Loatlands Primary School are treated as individuals with their own abilities, difficulties, attitudes, backgrounds and experiences.
Celebrating Difference
We teach 'Celebrating Difference' as part of our commitment to promoting equality and diversity in all aspects of school life.
'Celebrating Difference' is a whole school approach that uses resources taken from Jigsaw. This framework has been designed to teach children about equality and diversity, in line with British Values, Ofsted guidelines and the Equality Act (2010).
'Celebrating Difference' creates and supports the development of a whole school community that embraces and celebrates all forms of difference. The school holds detailed plans about how this is taught.
The Protected Characteristics at Loatlands
It is important that all children gain an understanding of the world they are growing up in, and learn how to live alongside, and show respect for, a diverse range of people.
The Equality Act 2010, identifies the ‘protected characteristics’ as:
- age
- disability
- gender reassignment
- pregnancy and maternity
- race
- religion or belief
- sex
- sexual orientation
At Loatlands Primary School, we approach this through PSHE lessons and through assemblies which are mapped out across the year.
The curriculum maps are available on request via the school office.
