Our EYFS
Our Early Years Foundation Stage provides a nurturing and stimulating environment where children can develop confidence, curiosity and independence.

Building on the strong foundations established in our Nursery, children benefit from familiar routines, caring relationships and a consistent approach that helps them settle quickly and grow in confidence.
Our EYFS environment is carefully designed to encourage curiosity and independence. Children enjoy a balance of adult-led teaching and child-initiated exploration through engaging indoor and outdoor provision, allowing them to develop key skills through meaningful play. With access to extensive outdoor spaces, natural features and regular Forest School experiences, children are encouraged to explore, take risks, build resilience and develop a strong connection with the world around them.
By working closely with families and understanding each child’s individual needs, we ensure every child is supported to flourish socially, emotionally and academically, providing the best possible start to their school journey.
What Makes Us Unique

Forest School
Every child at Loatlands benefits from regular access to our on-site Forest School programme. These outdoor learning experiences encourage children to take risks safely, develop resilience and build confidence through practical, hands-on activities.
Whether cooking over an open fire, pond dipping, building dens or learning to use tools safely, children develop important life skills while enjoying meaningful connections with the natural environment. Forest School promotes wellbeing, independence and a sense of adventure that extends far beyond the classroom.
Outdoor Space
Our grounds include large playgrounds, open fields, a sensory garden and trim trails, providing rich opportunities for both active play and quiet exploration. These spaces are used throughout the school day to support physical development, creativity and emotional regulation. Whether children are running, climbing, investigating nature or taking time in calmer areas, our outdoor environment helps them return to learning feeling refreshed, focused and ready to succeed.

OPAL (Outdoor Play And Learning Programme)
The OPAL Programme is an approach used in many schools to improve the quality and impact of play during break times by developing richer, more inclusive outdoor environments and encouraging children to explore, create, and interact freely. It recognises that play is not just a break from learning, but a vital part of it—helping children build resilience, problem-solving skills, social confidence, and creativity. Through high-quality play experiences, children learn how to manage risk, negotiate with others, and develop emotional wellbeing in ways that directly support classroom learning and long-term development.

Immersive Classroom
Our immersive classroom provides exciting opportunities to enhance learning through engaging, multisensory experiences. By combining visual, audio and interactive elements, lessons become more memorable, meaningful and accessible for all learners. This innovative approach helps capture children’s imagination, deepen understanding and support a range of learning styles, creating experiences that inspire curiosity and improve recall.
Leadership and Responsibility
Children are encouraged to play an active role within our school community through a range of leadership opportunities. Roles such as School Council members, Play Leaders, House Captains and Anti-Bullying Ambassadors enable children to make meaningful contributions to school life. These responsibilities help children develop confidence, communication skills, leadership qualities and a strong sense of responsibility while learning the importance of supporting others and working as part of a team.
Celebration and Recognition
Recognising and celebrating success is an important part of life at Loatlands. Our Awesome Lunchtime awards celebrate positive choices during social times, while our weekly Loatlands Legends celebrations recognise achievements both in and outside of school. These opportunities help build confidence, motivation and a strong sense of pride.
Community Engagement
Whether taking part in local parades, the Christmas Tree Festival or Remembrance services, children learn the importance of contributing positively to the wider community. Our support for initiatives such as food banks and seasonal fundraising further demonstrates our commitment to helping others.
External Providers
We enrich our curriculum through partnerships with specialist providers who bring additional expertise. Rocksteady Music School gives children the opportunity to learn instruments and perform as part of a real rock band, building confidence, teamwork and self-esteem. JAM Coding introduces children to computer programming and digital skills through engaging projects that develop creativity, logical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
